Minnesota trip recap, complete with Ice Cream!

As many of you know who have followed our family for a while, we LOVE good ice cream! Dad drives our bus most of the miles down the road and from time to time he just decides (but sometimes with a helpful hint from the peanut gallery) :) to pull over and pick up some ice cream! We love Cold Stone Creamery, and this trip, one came along at the perfect opportunity!

Being the semi-frugal family we are :) we usually pair up and split something. We love Cold Stone's "Signature Creations" but sometimes it's fun to step outside of the box a little and "re-create" their creations. Laura and Luke put together the favorite of this trip - French Vanilla ice cream,  brownie, salted butterscotch sauce, and fudge sauce. Trust us - it tastes better than it looks like on paper. :)

Luke enjoyed an indoor rotating wood grill - the meat roasting smelled wonderful - to bad it wasn't lunch time... :)

Karen made yet another new friend. :)

Dad and mom enjoyed a little garden beside a church - a fun little place to sit down and relax a bit...

This little frog had a wonderful time, snapping up the little bugs that were attracted to the light one evening!

And that's it - another tour in the bag - where did the summer go? It seems like it had just started, and here we are, with school already in session!

2015 ALERT Family Camp!

We are excited to be joining the International ALERT Academy again this year in Big Sandy, Texas for their Family Camp! We had a wonderful time last year - if you are thinking about attending, definitely try to make it down to Texas - you won't regret it! Last year the Legend of El Socoh musical was a BIG hit, and we are excited to be a part of their BRAND NEW prequel, El Richo! We also have an evening performance on Thursday.

Karen's Solo Violin Recital!

Save the Date - Saturday, September 12! Karen will be performing an AMAZING solo violin recital with Dr. Dimitri Vorobiev accompanying her on the piano. The concert will be at 6:00 pm in Davis Hall at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls. She has picked out some of the hardest (but also most fun) solo violin repertoire and has been working on it for quite some time now... :) She would love to catch up with you at the reception afterwards!

Happy Independence Day Weekend!

According to an old farming adage, corn is supposed to be knee-high by the 4th of July, if all is well in the world of stalks and stems... No matter how true this is, the corn 'round here has knocked it out of the park! BUT nonetheless, if you ask farmers around Iowa how the corn is doing, you probably will still get a bit of grumbling that it should be doing better.... :) Anyway, we want to wish you a happy Independence Day weekend from the Johnson Strings!

Goodbyes..

We said goodbye to our Ford E-350 15 passenger van. It carried us well over 200,000 miles across the US, breaking down just once (or maybe twice - we had it for so long we can't remember!) during all it's travels...No wonder we called it "Old Faithful". :) Unfortunately, with the odometer over 250,000 miles, one too many things broke and needed repair...It has now found a new home in permanent retirement - may it rest in peace...(rust in piece :P ) (Not really...we did love our old van.)
