Windy Days.....

The latest installment in our never ending vehicle woes saga! Our family has grown accustomed to the wind as our constant companion on our farm, swirling, whirling and whistling everywhere. Usually there are few problems with that, but last week was a major exception! Monday, as Silas was washing the Jeep, an extra powerful gust of wind blew the basketball hoop over right onto the hood of our Jeep. After bouncing around on the hood like a pogo stick, it left a few big dents and scratches as its calling card. The following day (Tuesday) Dad drove home from work in our trusty silver van and opened the door to get out, only to have the wind rip the door out of his hand over-opening the door - damaging the door and the area around it! Now the driver's door truly opens 'with a bang'! Then Wednesday Abigail and Luke were coming home in the PT Cruiser, and close to home it had an all too familiar problem we'd encountered last year with the same car - jerking forwards on the road, and smelling hot....
Thankfully our Sprinter did not bring any more problems during our trip to Nebraska over Easter to visit family!

More of CWVFF

Luke and Silas enjoyed teaching from several actors, including Beth Becka, owner of Insight School of Acting - you never know when you might need those drama skills.... :) The film festival was well attended - Laura went to this showing in one of the smaller theaters - there was a packed out crowd...standing room only!

The powerful chords of the Hallelujah Chorus from George Friedrich Handel's Messiah echo through the stone-walled courtyards and arches of this Gothic estate. This university trained, Christian family band tours the US, creating an unforgettable musical show that brings audiences to their feet night after night.

Texas Here We Come!

Preparations for our trip to Texas are well underway! We are excited to leave the cold weather of Iowa, and warm up a bit in the southwestern breeze... :) We leave early Saturday morning, and hopefully will arrive in Big Sandy, TX by suppertime, barring a Sprinter break down. For most of this year so far, it has been broken down or in the shop getting "fixed." Dad, with some help from Seth, finished putting it all back together late last night, and it works, or at least it worked on the test drive down the road. :)

Violin Hunt!

During January in preparation for our CD project, Laura, Karen, Luke, and Abigail headed up to Minneapolis, MN to visit our favorite violin shop - Claire Givens Violins! First up was to find Abigail a new violin and bow - she had been using the same violin for seven years and it was high time for an upgrade! The process we use to select our favorite instrument is quite time intensive - listen, take notes on each violin, listen some more, and discuss each violin separately. After narrowing the choices down to 2 violins, we repeated the same processes with bows - Abigail fell in love with a bow, and it worked beautifully with the better of the two favorite violins! She tried out 15 violins and 13 bows - make sure you try ALL the options, right? :) She is thrilled with her new instrument and it sounded gorgeous in the recording studio. Next, Luke looked at many bows to try to replace his bow, but he didn't find one that worked well for him - not to worry, though, as we will be traveling through the Twin Cities again this spring and summer. It will be the perfect opportunity to visit again!

CD Project Update!

We had a whirlwind trip (Feb.15-18)  to Michigan to record our next CD project! When it was all said and done, each day lasted from about 6:30 am to 12:00 am or 1:00 am! We definitely had some long days, but we are excited about finishing the project up. Seth and Silas had fun relaxing in the lobby of the studio when they weren't needed - although the look quite productive at this point, who knows what they were REALLY doing.... :) We finished up the trip with a bang, driving the 9 hours home - a couple of which were in a blinding snow storm!
